Florida panthers are the only known population of pumas in the eastern United States. Historically, these big cats lived across the southeastern United States from Arkansas to South Carolina. They are now only found in a small breeding range in south Florida. The biggest threats these panthers face are habitat loss and fragmentation due to the expansion of human construction and roadway accidents. Here are a few things you can do to help protect Florida panthers.

1. Practice coexisting techniques.

If you are a Florida resident in panther territory, practice peaceful coexisting techniques. Do not hunt in the area and drive safely on the roads. Click here to find a guide on living with Florida Panthers.

2. Contact your local federal representatives.

Voice your support for the conservation of Florida Panthers to your local federal representatives! Make phone calls, write letters, and send emails stating the importance of protecting these cats and their habitat!

3. Spread awareness

Share this post with others and educate them about Florida panthers. The more people know, the more they can do to help!

4. Donate to organizations

Non-profit organizations such as the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida and Friends of the Florida Panther Refuge are dedicated to conserving Florida panthers and their habitats. You can donate to the Florida Panther Fund by purchasing a Protect the Panther license plate or by making an online donation. Donate to the Friends of the Florida Panther Refuge by clicking here.
