Hippos used to roam all of Africa, but are now only confined to certain areas due to their significantly decreasing population. Habitat loss due to human encroachment and poaching are the biggest threats hippos face today. Their ivory tusks are highly prized by hunters. Conflict with humans also contribute to the decreasing hippo population. Hippos can be seen as extremely dangerous towards humans, when really they are just very protective of their mates and their territory. The more people learn about hippos and their behavior, the better humans and hippos will be at living in harmony.
To help hippos, it is important to educate your friends and family about them and the threats they face. HippoWorlds has plenty of fun, educational posts and quizzes to learn more about hippos. Send quizzes and articles to your friends and family and see what they know!
You can also support organizations such as the Turgwe Hippo Trust, the African Wildlife Foundation, Saving Animals Facing Extinction, and the World Wildlife Foundation.
Keep an eye out for our Henry the Hippo Pet package coming soon!
Thank you for doing your part in helping hippos.
